About Us

In 1995, a small group, most of them students and researchers, organized a Saraswati Puja. It was celebrated in a home-like atmosphere, in Rockville, Maryland. The number of participants slowly increased in the following years, and eventually the small organization emerged as Purbachal. Though it has now grown into a much larger family, the organization still maintains the same tradition it had valued at its onset. Purbachal also celebrates 'Baisakhi' and 'Durga Puja'. Our aim at Purbachal is to give our children a knowledge of our cultural heritage and make an effort to expose them to the cultural atmosphere that we enjoyed during our childhood when we grew up.

Purbachal Inc. is now registered as a non profit organization with IRS under section501(c)(3).
